ACE racer, Marty Page, has returned to the stock car racing track, just a week after suffering a heart attack.

Mr Page, from Elmsett, suffered a heart attack while racing at the V8 Stock Cars East Anglian Championship at Foxhall Stadium two weeks ago.

But within eight days, Mr Page, a world champion four years ago, proved his love for stock car racing, by watching the races after leaving hospital.

His friend Richard Carter, said: "He's fit as a fiddle and feeling much better. He was released from hospital last Saturday and went to watch the stock car racing at Great Yarmouth on Sunday night.

"Anyone who knows anyone knows Marty Page when it comes to stock car racing – I can't think of anyone who would say a bad thing about him."

It was during a race on Sunday, August 4, at Foxhall, that Mr Page, who is in his 50s, was taken ill.

He had built up a huge lead at the half way stage of the race, but then started to slow before speeding up again and then slowing once more, coming to a halt parked up against the safety wall alcove.

The car started up again, ran around the alcove for a few yards, before bouncing off it and careering across the centre green demolishing a flagpole and finally coming to a halt.

The race was stopped instantly and the two on-site ambulances were on the scene within moments.

He was immediately transferred to Ipswich Hospital and started to make good progress as his condition stabilised.

After suffering his second heart attack within recent months, he was transferred to Papworth Hospital in Cambridge where his condition further improved and was discharged last Saturday.

Mr Page has declined to comment on the incident.
