WORKERS at Ipswich docks are being told by the Home Office to send unaccompanied asylum-seekers to London, it emerged today.
With no immigration officers stationed at the port, and officials in Harwich rarely able to respond immediately, dockers claim attempts to stem the tide of illegal immigrants and asylum-seekers have descended into farce.
As concerns mount over the resurgence of people entering the country illegally, an alarming loophole can be revealed in Suffolk.
Port workers now must follow directions outlined in a letter from the Home Office, advising them to tell suspected illegal immigrants to travel 81 miles to Croydon on their own.
