STOWMARKET: New images of a proposed 4.7million activity centre for young people in a Suffolk town are today unveiled for the first time.
Delivery of the “world class” youth centre - named The Mix - has moved a step closer after the pre-planning consultation process was launched.
The Mix would be built at a site opposite the Regal Cinema in Ipswich Street, and would offer a range of activities for youngsters in the town, who are being invited to have their say on the idea.
The proposals have been put forward by Suffolk County Council, and The Mix has been described as “an exciting modern facility” that would provide young people with a safe space to explore their talents, socialise with friends and access independent advice and guidance.
The building work would take two years and the council plans to start with the demolition of the existing building in June next year before opening the new facility by June 2012.
The site would house a caf, multi-media centre, IT suite, dance hall and sports facilities and would be funded largely from a grant from the Department for Children, Schools and Families.
