A FORKLIFT truck driver who hanged himself told his ex-partner he was going to take his own life, an inquest heard today.

The inquest at Endeavour House, Ipswich, today, heard how Phillip Melton, 23, of St Andrews Road, Felixstowe, phoned his ex-partner Naomi Kerr on July 8 this year and told her he planned to commit suicide.

She alerted police officers and they found his body in an outhouse on Coronation Drive, Felixstowe.

They also found a suicide note written on the lid of a freezer.

Dr Peter Dean, Suffolk coroner, said: “It is clear from all the evidence that there were worries and concerns Mr Melton had. The action he took on that day, he understood the consequences of and intended the consequences of those actions.”

Dr Dean recorded a verdict that Mr Melton had taken his own life. He added that his thoughts were with his family and friends.
