A MOTORCYCLIST was killed on his way to a bike show when a car pulled out of a junction in front of him, an inquest heard.

Adrian Leech , 45, of The Langstons, Trimley St Mary, near Felixstowe, died on October 6 last year when he collided with a Nissan car on the A1156 Felixstowe Road in Ipswich.

Doctors tried to save him but Mr Leech, who was a service manager, died from head and chest injuries later that day in Ipswich Hospital.

His friend David Read had been with Mr Leech at the Copdock Bike Show at Suffolk Showground on October 6.

He told the inquest they had left the show to get some food at Felixstowe and were on their way back to the venue shortly before 4pm when the accident happened.

Mr Read said a car began to pull out of a road, leading to Nacton village, stopped and drove out again in front of Mr Leech.

He saw his friend collide with the car, causing him to be thrown over the vehicle into the road. "I ran over and saw him lying there and collapsed to the floor myself," said Mr Read.

"He was a superb driver – we all learned a lot from him. You could not ask for a better bloke in all respects."

Eye-witnesses, including fellow motorcyclists, described the car "slowly stuttering" out of the junction, attempting to turn right and cross the road to join a queue of traffic.

The inquest was told police accident investigators estimated Mr Leech had been travelling at a speed of between 30mph and 60mph in the seconds before the crash.

Sybil Brown, who was travelling in the green Nissan Almeira with its driver Stella Dent, described the accident in a statement read to the court.

"There was a loud bang and thump. There was glass all over the car and Stella had blood on her face. There was a V-shaped dent in the car," she said.

Mrs Dent, from Buckinghamshire, who did not give evidence at the inquest, has been summonsed to appear in court relating to the incident.

Greater Suffolk coroner Dr Peter Dean recorded a verdict of accidental death. "There was a sense that Adrian was a safe driver and a very careful driver," he added.
