The free community event, named Inspired to Play, takes place at the charity’s headquarters in Lindbergh Road, Ipswich on Sunday, May 14, from 10am-3.30pm.

All ages and abilities are welcome.

Andy Crump, programmes director at Inspire Suffolk, said: “We are enthusiastic about giving local people opportunities to be inspired by all of the fantastic sports and activities that happen across Suffolk.

“By bringing them all to one place, we hope it will motivate our community to continue to become more active.”

The event has been backed by the Ipswich East Rotary Club, Ipswich Borough Council and Suffolk County Council’s Most Active County bid.

In Suffolk, the proportion of adults aged over 16 playing sport for at least 30 minutes once a week fell from 34.6% in October 2014-September 2015, to 33.6% in October 2015-September 2016, Sport England’s last-ever Active People Survey showed last year.

Clubs and groups are now urged to get in touch with Inspire Suffolk to showcase their sport at the event.

John Button, president of the Ipswich East Rotary Club, said: “A great day is planned offering all ages a chance to try a sport that they have always wanted to have a go at and to find out where they can enjoy that sport in the future.

“We thank all the local clubs that have got involved in this exciting day and would encourage you all to turn up and see what you are able to try out on your doorstep.”

A spokesman for Inspire Suffolk added: “Give zumba a try, take a shot at walking football or try out a dance workshop.

“The day is set to be a success with a range of sports groups confirmed for the day including dance, Boccia, football, cricket and many more.”

People are welcomed to bring a picnic to the event. There will also be refreshments available to purchase on the day and limited car parking available on site.
