AXA in Civic Drive is currently looking to take on more than 100 new staff after winning the contract to underwrite Lloyds TSB Insurance's travel insurance from February 1 next year.

Andy Fairchild, customer operations director, AXA, said: “We are delighted to have won the Lloyds TSB Insurance travel account. This is great news for the team in Ipswich. It is a testament to their hard work and commitment.

“We look forward to working with Lloyds TSB Insurance to enhance the value of their business, and deliver an outstanding service to their customers.

“As a result of this win, we will be looking to recruit over 100 new staff and be giving existing employees the opportunity to learn new skills or take on more senior roles as we grow. More people also means we are going to need to organise space to accommodate the growing team.”

One of the largest insurers in the world, the company is building up a wealth of national clients, which it serves from its Ipswich office.

AXA is currently interviewing for customer services representatives as part of its drive to take on the staff it needs. Other workers with specific expertise, such as analysts and management, are also being taken on, although predominately the additional staff will be customer service personnel.

It has also promoted nine current employees as a result of winning the Lloyds TSB Insurance contract.

AXA is having to use temporary premises to cope with the influx of new staff in the short-term.

Malcolm Hollister, customer services director for personal lines, said: “We have taken on some temporary premises in Princes Street, while work on Suffolk House in Civic Drive continues. Permanent staff from other parts of the company will be based there, with the new team in the main building.”

AXA employs around 400 people in its growing corporate partners business in Ipswich.

Employees currently handle sales and service for a wide range of insurance products supplied by a number of household names.

With its parent company based in France, Axa is one of the world's largest insurers in financial protection and wealth management.

According to the company it services 50 million customers throughout the world. In total, the AXA Group has approximately 117,000 employees and distributors worldwide, working in around 50 countries.

In addition to providing product support for Lloyds TSB Insurance, AXA is the largest travel insurer in the UK.
