Sniffer dog Reqs used his keen sense of smell to help with the investigation into a fatal bungalow blaze.

Firefighters rescued two men from the property in Fuchsia Lane, Ipswich, at around 1.15am on Wednesday.

A man, in his 80s, suffered a cardiac arrest at the scene and his heart was restarted by paramedics. He was taken to Ipswich Hospital where he died later that morning.

The other resident, in his 60s, was taken to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford with serious injuries but he is now believed to be stable.

Reqs and handler Nicky Harvey from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene on Thursday to help work out what caused the blaze.

A brigade spokesman said: “Dogs have the ability to survey the fire scene in a short amount of time, increasing the investigators ability to build a picture of the incident.”

Suffolk Fire Rescue and Service can not released any further information about the investigation at this time.
