There were fears he wasn’t going to be able to serve his loyal customers on derby day, but disaster has been avoided for one hot food vendor outside Portman Road.

Mike Green, who has run his hot dog unit on Princes Street for more than 30 years, feared he would not be able to serve the Ipswich Town faithful due to some road restrictions ahead of the first East Anglian derby in more than three years.

Due to police measures to keep potential trouble between fans to a minimum, Mr Green would have had to move locations and only be able to serve Norwich City fans.

He said: “I understand what the police are doing but I have loyal trade. It’s my human rights to go to work and they’re taking it away.”

However, following conversations with Ipswich Borough Council and the police, the issue was resolved, allowing Mr Green to move to where he can serve the Town fans.

A police spokesman said: “Our policing operation is designed to ensure a safe and secure event for fans, shoppers, residents, motorists and retailers alike. We obviously will not be able to satisfy the needs and demands of everyone, but our desire for a trouble-free, friendly game must come top of our agenda and should be a priority for everyone.”
