A total of 56 motorists were arrested on suspicion of drink or drug-driving between December 1 and 14 as part of Suffolk Constabulary’s festive crackdown.

Twenty-five of the drivers have provided positive drug swipes at the roadside, while the remainder were suspected to be drink-drivers.

Among the latest to lose their licences after appearing before South East Suffolk Magistrates Court in Ipswich was Anthony Ryan who was banned for 24 months after pleading guilty to driving while over the alcohol limit.

The 36-year-old window cleaner, of Chevallier Street, Ipswich, was caught early on December 10.

At the time he was more than twice the drink-drive limit when involved in a collision while driving a Renault Megane in Grimwade Street/Fore Street area.

A breath test showed he had 85 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35mcgs.

In addition to his ban magistrates fined Ryan £400 and ordered him to pay £85 costs and £40 to the victims’ fund.

Kalvin Roshier, of Eagle Close, Stowmarket, also admitted drink-driving.

The 25-year-old labourer had 59mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath after police stopped his Renault in Eagle Close at around 1.30am on December 11.

Magistrates banned Roshier for 16 months and fined him £480. He must also pay £85 costs and £48 to the victims’ fund.

Nuno Martins Do Lago, of Marigold Avenue, Ipswich, was disqualified from driving for 20 months after appearing before the same court to admit drink-driving.

The 39-year-old factory worker was stopped in London Road due to the manner of his driving in a Vauxhall Tigra.

A breath test showed he had 71mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

The offence occurred at around 9.50pm on December 10.

Martins Do Lago was also fined £550 and ordered to pay a total of £140 in costs and a victim surcharge.

Previously Clare Haxley, of Kemball Street, Ipswich, had appeared before the town’s magistrates to plead guilty to drink-driving after a two-vehicle collision in Willoughby Road on December 7.

The 36-year-old was twice the drink-drive limit when her Peugeot 307 was involved in an accident which occurred at around 6.05pm.

A breath test showed she had 71mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

Haxley was disqualified from driving for 14 months and fined £110. She must also pay costs of £60 as well as £30 to the victims’ fund.
