Fifty classic Mini cars lined Ipswich Waterfront today as members of a motoring club came together for their first public event, which raised hundreds of pounds for charity.
Before the display, drivers from the Ipswich and Suffolk Mini Owners Club took part in a three-hour navigation challenge, working out a series of riddles which led them to different landmarks in the county.
The event is set to bring in £1,000 for Fresh Start - new beginnings, which provides therapy for sexually abused children in Suffolk and Norfolk.
Club founder Carl George said he chose to back this charity because it was local and in need of funds, as it currently had a waiting list of 50 children who need its support.
Speaking of today’s show, Mr George said: “Everyone had a really good time. The Waterfront was really busy and the public were looking at the Minis, so it was a good atmosphere.”
The group hopes to run the event again next year in aid of Fresh Start - new beginnings, Mr George said.
Established in October, the Ipswich and Suffolk Mini Owners Club already has 80 members on its books.
