Three men arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in Ipswich have been told they will not be charged.

The trio were detained after a firearm was discharged at a property in Stoke Street at around 1.15am on April 14.

The person living at the premises called police to say it was being broken-into.

The man reported he was woken by the sound of banging, before seeing two men kick in the front door and shoot a gun at the entrance to the property.

No one was harmed and the offenders immediately left the scene.

Police investigations into the incident found evidence that a firearm was discharged.

The following day a 48-year-old man from Clacton-on-Sea and a 28-year-old man from Liverpool were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

Less than a week later a 24-year-old from Salford was also detained.

All three were interviewed by officers from Suffolk’s major investigation team, before being released on bail pending further enquiries.

They were due to return to Martlesham police investigation centre yesterday.

Karen Willie, a spokeswoman for Suffolk Constabulary, said all three have now been told they will face no further action.

It is understood there was insufficient evidence against them to bring any charges.

The investigation continues.
