IPSWICH band The Wah are to open the Big Bang Festival this weekend.

The festival which includes the Camper and Bus Show takes place from today until Sunday at the Santa Pod Raceway near Wellingborough, in Northamptonshire.

The Wah are the first band to play opening the event tomorrow at noon.

Drummer Martin Ward said: “This is a great opportunity for us to play to a wider audience and we are playing to a crowd of hardened festival goers.

“This is a festival for VW fans and it's the sort of place where our music is likely to go down well. We are looking forward to making some new friends and fans.”

Martin said the organisers have earmarked the band to play at the Bug Jam festival later in the year.

A spokesman for the festival said: “The Wah play a fusion of funk, rock, hip-hop and ska and have been tipped for success since their emergence in 2005.

“These up-and-coming 20-somethings look set to take the national scene by storm with their own inimitable brand of head-bobbing, foot-stomping funk.

“Famous for their frenetic and frenzied live shows, the band's inventive use of electronics and samples sets them apart from the run of the mill.”
