A MAN who overcame cancer as a child is undertaking an incredible challenge to raise money for charity.

Olly Hart, 26, of Castle Hill, is cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats on a BMX bike for Cancer Research alongside his brother William Archer, 23, also of Castle Hill, and pal Callum Banister.

When Mr Hart was five he endured chemotherapy to treat rhabdomyosarcoma in his stomach.

Rhabdomyosarcoma is a rare cancer which is most prevalent in children and can develop in supporting tissues such as muscles, bone or cartilage.

Mr Hart said: “I had cancer and obviously survived, and I wanted to do something for Cancer Research.”

The plan originated when Mr Hart and Mr Banister, who met during a snowboarding season in Scotland, discussed a marathon the latter had run in Scotland to raise money for cystic fibrosis charities.

The friends decided they would embark on the bicycle challenge.

However, the route is going to be even more testing than the one cyclists usually take.

Mr Hart said: “The normal route is 850 miles but we’re going to do 1,000 miles.”

The group, who set off yesterday, hope to complete the route in 100 hours.

Mr Hart added: “People normally do it in 60 but on a BMX it’s obviously a little bit harder!”

The trio, who are all keen cyclists, have already raised 261 and their aim is to make 2,000 overall.
