Just over 500 foam-covered fundraisers dashed across Christchurch Park in Ipswich today in the rain to pledge their support for St Elizabeth Hospice.

As people young and old headed around the 5km course they were blasted with bubbles along the route.

Despite the dreary conditions, they had huge smiles across their faces and they were covered in a variety of colours, which brightened up the day.

Natalie Hill, events and challenges fundraiser at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “It’s been another wonderful Bubble Rush day in Ipswich and it’s fantastic to see so much support for the hospice from the local community.

“It’s always great to see everyone as they cross the finish line covered in foam and collecting their medals but there is a serious side to the event.

“Every penny raised from Bubble Rush today, through the entry fees and sponsorship, stays in the local area and goes towards helping members of our community living with a progressive or terminal illness, allowing us to offer all of our services free of charge to them when they need it most.”

Joanne Rodger, events and challenges organiser for St Elizabeth Hospice, said Ipswich Bubble Rush normally raises about £30,000.

“We have to raise £10.5 million a year so events like this will contribute to that. We couldn’t do without everyone coming out for these events.”

She said Bubble Rush really was an event for the whole family, including dads, as a lot of fundraisers tend to be mums and daughters.

“They came in smiling and cheering,” she added. “The rain makes it much more of a challenge.”

Zoe and Gareth Durrant, from near Stowmarket, took part with their children, Georgia, seven, and Callum, five.

Mrs Durrant said it had been “really good” and “totally worth it”.
