MIST filled the air around Ipswich’s biggest park yesterday morning as dozens of officers investigated an alleged murder.
A police officer or PCSO was stationed at every entrance to Chantry Park and many were kept busy turning people away from the site, which had been turned into a major crime scene.
The park fills a vast, rolling expanse between Hadleigh Road and London Road and is home to The Chantry, a Sue Ryder nursing home opened in 1994.
Yesterday morning disappointed dog walkers had to find another place to exercise their hounds and joggers had to take an alternative route for their morning run.
The police cordon in the heart of the park, a lengthy piece of tape looped around several large trees, was the only sign from the distant perimeter of any actual activity but more police began to arrive at the park later in the morning.
The area around the cricket pavilion was the main focus of attention while colleagues at the Martlesham headquarters questioned a 42-year-old suspect.
