IPSWICH: A teenager who was caught with more than 100 indecent images and videos of children on his computer may face a custodial sentence.

The 16-year-old from south west Ipswich, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was himself a child when police seized his home computer in December 2009 and discovered files ranging from the lowest ‘level one’ indecent depictions of children to the most severe ‘level five’, Ipswich Youth Court heard yesterday.

The high school pupil yesterday appeared at the court in Ipswich and sat between his mother and father to again hear the list of charges he admitted last month.

They included 22 images and 101 videos – many of which illustrated sexual activity between adults and children – found on his computer on December 31, 2009.

The teenager originally denied the allegations, instead offering a written denial in interview, but he later pleaded guilty to the offences in court.

Magistrates yesterday decided that the teenager, who had no previous convictions, should be sentenced at crown court for 16 counts of making an indecent photograph of a child, one count of possessing an indecent photograph of a child, and two counts of possession extreme pornographic images.

He was granted unconditional bail until a date to be confirmed.
