MORE than 400 Ipswich children formed a walking bus as part of a world record attempt.
Youngsters from Whitehouse junior and infant schools held hands and walked around the two schools, crossing two roads as they went.
Ian Williams, deputy head for Whitehouse Junior School, in Marlow Road, said: "The children really seemed to enjoy it – and the fact they might be helping break a world record was a real clincher.
"The aim was to encourage children to walk more sensibly, encourage children to walk to school perhaps in pairs or with a responsible adult and encourage drivers to be careful."
The event was part of a national record-breaking attempt organised by road safety charity Brake and sponsored by ASDA and Avis.
The aim was to get 50,000 children around the country to simultaneously take part in a walking bus at 10am on Wednesday.
Ray Pash, general store manager for ASDA Ipswich, said he was pleased to be involved with the attempt.
Brake is confident it has broken the world record, but the attempt will take four to six months to be officially confirmed.
