Safety advisors hope to educate young people about the dangers of electricity in ‘Crucial Crew’ events.
The team from UK Power Networks, which owns and operates electricity networks in East of England, will meet youngsters at the event from June 5 to 16 at Hallowtree Scout Camp-site in Nacton.
The venue will feature a pretend electricity substation to show children why they must not trespass inside or ignore “danger” signs.
The mock substation shows the reality of what could go wrong if they ventured inside one for real and is designed to remove any lingering curiosity they may have.
Ros Forbes, UK Power Networks public safety and education adviser, said: “This is a safe and engaging way to get the message across to young people to stay away from electrical equipment such as substations and overhead lines.
“It helps them to understand how dangerous electricity can be and enables them to make the right decisions that keep them safe.”
UK Power Networks has a Power Up website to raise awareness of the safety issues.
It is aimed at young people aged between seven and 16 and has facts, quizzes, downloads and resources for teachers and parents in line with the National Curriculum.
