Citizens Advice Ipswich is preparing for its busiest day of the year for debt advice this month, as dozens are expected on January 31 to seek advice.
Last January, 2,800 people nationwide sought debt advice on January 31 – 30% higher than normal.
Around 100 people are expected to be seeking debt advice in Ipswich, as bills from Christmas and credit card payments for presents hit homeowners.
Nicky Willshere, chief officer of Citizens Advice Ipswich, said:
“There is a surge in demand for our debt advice towards the second half of January.
“Christmas in particular can take a heavy toll on people already struggling to make their money last and leave them with a debt burden in the New Year. But this needn’t become a crisis – problems can be taken care of if you seek advice early.”
Advice issued includes prioritising debts and budgeting repayments.
