The classic film Escape to Victory, which starred a number of the Ipswich Town early-80s classic team, is tipped for a modern re-make.

The film, first released in 1981, is set in Nazi-occupied Paris and follows a prisoner-of-war football team who play a match against their captors while planning an escape.

It featured a mixed cast of actors, including Sylvester Stallone and Michael Caine, along with professional footballers.

A number of those in the John Huston-directed film played for Ipswich Town, including greats such as John Wark, Russell Osman, Laurie Sivell, Robin Turner and Kevin O’Callaghan.

Pele and Bobby Moore also starred in the film, while other Tractor Boys stood in for actors with Kevin Beattie playing Michael Caine and Paul Cooper for Sly Stallone in the football scenes.

Director Doug Liman, whose films include The Bourne Identity, is said to have signed up to take charge of the project according to the Hollywood Reporter.
