A TOWN pub closed after several breaches of its licence, it has been revealed today.
Uncle Tom’s Cabin in Vernon Street closed its doors on January 29, but it has emerged that prior to its closure the pub was given a number of warnings about breaching the terms of its licence.
An Ipswich Borough Council spokesman confirmed that the pub was not forced to close because of the breaches, but the council’s Licensing and Enforcement team recorded several breaches before the pub decided to close.
The exact details of the breaches have not been revealed.
The Swan pub at Westerfield also called last orders at the end of January, one of the latest pubs in the area to shut after months of struggling to stay afloat – along with the Golden Key in Woodbridge Road and the Emperor pub in Norwich Road.
The pub posted a message on its Facebook page saying: “We’re sad to announce that the Swan is closing, after many months of trying to keep it going, we have had to close, many thanks to all those that supported us over the years, lots of happy memories and good times that we’ll never forget! Thank you.”
Many people posted comments on the Facebook page expressing their sadness at the closure.
One comment said: “It’s such a shame that you’ve had to close we’ve being coming to you since I was a child.”
Another read: “Very sad news. Had many good meals there and enjoyed the friendly service.”
Enterprise Inns, the company which owns the pub in Westerfield Road, said there had been some interest in the pub but it was still looking for the right person to take over the business.
