More than £38,000 has been awarded to an Ipswich-based community interest company to help it launch a new project that aims to support isolated people in the town.

The money will allow Ipswich Community Media (ICM) to continue its work in getting people from hard-to-reach groups in the Norwich Road area integrated with the wider community.

The new initiative, called IConnect, will include English language classes, workshops and events in a bid to make participants feel more confident and connected within their community and to form new friendships.

Project manager Bruce Macgregor said: “This grant will help us expand our work in the community with migrants from the most deprived areas of Ipswich and enable us to target those on the periphery of society.”

IConnect, which is funded by HealthIntend through The Health Lottery, will be working with partners including Ipswich and Suffolk
Council for Racial Equality, Health Outreach, OneLife Suffolk, Community Church and Ipswich Borough Council.

For more information about the project contact Bruce on: 07881958011 or email: bruce@ipswichcm.org.uk.
