Community leaders are taking legal action to remove a group of travellers who have set up camp at a popular beauty spot in Ipswich.

Five caravans have moved on to a grass verge on the road leading up to the Orwell Country Park, off Nacton Road in Ipswich.

Officials have visited the site and Ipswich Borough Council are now taking steps to remove the group from the site.

A council spokeswoman said: “We have appealed to the courts for an eviction order and it should go to court by the end of the month.”

A spokeswoman for Suffolk police added: “There are some travellers at the Orwell Country Park.

“They have been there for about a week and it is a small number. They have not caused any trouble.”

It is the second time in about a year that a group of travellers have parked on the site after 12 caravans moved on to the car park in February last year.

Three years ago travellers also moved on to land near Ravenswood. The council took legal action to remove them.
