IPSWICH: Seven-year-old Mason Fountain has had to endure a great deal over the last 18 months.

Diagnosed with a brain tumour in April 2010, the youngster from Chantry Green has had to make regular trips to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for chemotherapy.

And he knows his dream of driving a fast car when he grows up is now probably beyond him – the brain tumour has damaged his eyesight and he is unlikely ever to be able to drive.

But that hasn’t stopped him dreaming. He has told his mum Shelley that he’s going to buy her a Lamborghini so she can chauffeur him around in style when he grows up!

Yesterday he was given the chance to try out the passenger’s seat of a Lambo when Ricky Hudson from Bunwell near Wymondham in Norfolk brought his Diablo down to Mason’s home for a spin.

The 12-year-old red supercar is Mr Hudson’s pride and joy. It might have been on the roads for a decade but it’s only done 29,000 miles and it’s strictly reserved for high days and holidays – and making wishes come true like this.

Mr Hudson bought the car last year: “We had to save for many years. It’s not something to use every day!”

The car does between eight and 15 miles to the gallon from its 530hp engine.

The ride was arranged by Caz Wilkinson who lost her own son Jack to cancer five years ago.

She contacted Barbara White from the When You Wish Upon a Star charity who contacted Mr Hudson.

Mrs Wilkinson, from Felixstowe, said: “I can’t do anything for Jack any more, but I can help to make other children happy and it is wonderful to see Mason’s eyes light up like this.”

Mason himself could hardly contain his excitement – not only did he go for a spin, but he was able to sit in the driver’s seat and toot the horn.

He said: “This is great. I have a green toy Lamborghini. I like it being red like this.”

The visit came at just the right time – today Mason starts a new course of chemotherapy at Addenbrooke’s.

Mum Shelley said: “He’s always so cheerful and he loves cars. He told me he’s going to buy a Lamborghini to drive him around when he grows up so this has really made his day today!”
