A Witness Service volunteer who won a national unsung hero award has had her achievement recognised by the High Sheriff of Suffolk.
Sue Godfrey, who has supported witnesses in cases at Ipswich Crown Court for 18 years, received her unsung hero award at a ceremony in Nottingham last week.
Yesterday, she was presented with a certificate recognising her achievement by the High Sheriff of Suffolk, Geoffrey Probert.
Mrs Godfrey, who lives in Ipswich, was nominated for the award by Renuka Sually, team leader for witness services at Ipswich crown and magistrates’ courts, in recognition for her ‘exceptional contribution’ to supporting witnesses in the criminal justice system.
She described Mrs Godfrey as “unassuming, calm and collected” and said she was held in high regard by her colleagues and staff from other court agencies.
Mrs Godfrey, who has supported witnesses ranging in age from five to 90, said she was honoured to receive the national award and the High Sheriff’s certificate.
