UPDATE:
TWO major incidents brought large parts of Ipswich grinding to a halt today as firefighters dealt with a dramatic blaze and a difficult rooftop rescue.
A worker suffered burns to his face in the gas explosion at the Buttermarket shopping centre, sparking a major emergency in the heart of the town centre.
The injured man had to be stretchered from the centre's roof after being given emergency treatment for his injuries.
The blast was the second major emergency of the day after a fire took hold in a five-storey silo at Cranfield's Mill, a landmark historic building on the Waterfront.
The blaze led to gridlock in the town centre as motorists faced nightmare traffic jams caused by roadblocks and diversions prompted by fears the building could collapse.
