A man who drove off after a collision which left a young woman pedestrian lying unconscious in a busy Ipswich road has been spared an immediate prison sentence.
Lee Corani, of Kemball Street, Ipswich, pleaded guilty at South East Suffolk Magistrates Court to failing to stop after a collision in Fore Hamlet.
The 33-year-old was sentenced to 12 weeks’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months, and ordered to participate in a 19-day thinking skills programme.
In addition Corani was disqualified from driving for six months and must pay £115 to the victims’ fund.
The accident occurred at around 7pm on September 20.
At the time Corani was driving a red Audi A3.
The pedestrian involved in the collision, who was said to be in her 20s, initially lost consciousness. However, after she was taken to Ipswich Hospital for treatment a Suffolk Constabulary spokeswoman described her injuries as swelling and bruising.
Corani was arrested during the morning of September 23 and subsequently charged to appear in court.
