Three motorists have had their licences taken away after being caught drink-driving in Ipswich.

One of the drivers, Henry Thomas, of Siloam Place, Ipswich, crashed his Ford Puma into a garden fence at the junction of Henley Road and Park Road.

The 20-year-old admitted drink-driving when he appeared before South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court.

Prosecutor Tess Mann said Thomas’ car was found abandoned with extensive damage to its front near-side at about 4.55am on March 12.

When they went to Thomas’ ground-floor flat they found the front door unlocked. Thomas was asleep in bed and fully clothed. When he was woken and asked where his car was, he told police it was round the corner, although he was unable to find his car keys, the court heard. A breath test showed Thomas had 64 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35mcgs.

Thomas told the court: “I’m sorry about my actions. I won’t be doing it again.”

He was disqualified from driving for 18 months and ordered to pay fines and costs totalling £265.

Kerry Alderson was seen by police driving her Ford Mondeo along Commercial Road in Ipswich on March 11.

Magistrates heard the vehicle was moving slowly and had straddled both lanes.

The car went into Cardinal Park via the entrance restricted to buses and taxis before pulling up outside Cineworld.

When officers spoke to 29-year-old Alderson, of Stanley Road, Newmarket, they could smell alcohol on her breath.

A breath test showed she had 60mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath.

Alderson, who admitted drink-driving, told the court: “I’m truly sorry. It’s a decision I’m going to have to live with for the rest of my life.”

She was disqualified from driving for 15 months, fined £370 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and £37 to the victims’ fund.

James Wells, of Forge Close, Benhall, near Saxmundham, was given a 14- month driving ban after pleading guilty to drink-driving.

The court heard a police officer saw him driving in excess of the 30mph speed limit at 1am on March 12 in Woodbridge Road, Ipswich.

Wells’ Skoda Fabia was followed into Heath Road where he travelled at about 40mph, although he kept touching his brakes when the road was clear.

A breath test showed he had 59mcgs of alcohol in 100mls of breath. In addition to his ban, Wells was ordered to pay £492 in fines and costs.
