IPSWICH: A teenager who travelled from London to Ipswich to sell drugs on the town’s streets has been locked up for three years.
Eighteen-year-old Anthony Hunter was seen acting suspiciously in an alleyway in Sidegate Lane, Ipswich, by an-off duty policeman who called for assistance from other officers, Ipswich Crown Court heard.
When undercover officers in an unmarked car arrived at the scene, they pulled up by Hunter who had tried to run off, said Marcus Crosskell, prosecuting.
He was detained after being taken to the ground and was found in possession of 18 wraps of heroin, 24 wraps of crack cocaine and �275 cash.
The total street value of the drugs was estimated at �840.
Hunter, of Albion Road, London, admitted two offences of possessing class A drugs with intent to supply and was jailed for three years. Sentencing him, Judge John Holt said the defendant had come to Ipswich from London to sell heroin and cocaine for financial gain.
Tariq Khawam, for Hunter, said his client had grown up in a culture of drugs. However, he was not dealing to finance a drug habit and this did not explain why he had come to Ipswich to sell drugs.
