Suffolk police remain at the scene of an incident in Ipswich where a man fell from a flat and understood to have died in the early hours of the morning.

Police were called just after 2.35am on Wednesday morning, following reports that a man had fallen from the third-floor balcony of a flat in Duke Street.

This newspaper understands that the man has since died.

Officers are still at the scene which is in a courtyard off Hope Court, Duke Street.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: “It is not clear what the nature of the incident is at this stage, though at least one officer remains at the scene and there is a cordon in place.

“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing and further updates will follow in due course.”

Ipswich Borough councillor for Holywells Liz Harsant said she knew the apartment block well.

“I feel desperately sorry for the residents who live there,” said Mrs Harsant.

“It’s frightening.

“I support the residents completely.”
