TICKETS are still available for tonight’s Ipswich Star carol concert at St Mary-le-Tower church in the heart of the town.

This year’s service will raise funds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance – providing a boost for the vital service that helps save hundreds of lives a year.

Tickets are available during the day from the Star’s offices at 30 Lower Brook Street in Ipswich. They cost 2 each.

There will also be tickets available at the door in the run-up to the service which starts at 7pm.

As well as Star editor Terry Hunt, there will be readings from people representing different areas of life in the area – as well as a reading from Pip Duffy from the East Anglian Ambulance service.

Ipswich MP Ben Gummer will also be taking part in the service, which is a mixture of familiar carols which everyone will know with a few special performances by the church choir – one of the finest in the country. The concert is also being supported by the East of England Co-operative Society, and Amanda Long from the society will be giving the first reading to help start the service.

In his introduction to the service, Mr Hunt says: “This is our third seasonal concert at St Mary-le-Tower and I am very grateful to Canon Charles Jenkin and his team for organising this splendid event at a church which was named in the Domesday Book.

“This service is an exciting part of the festive season in Ipswich and we hope you enjoy it.

“Our celebration is one of several community occasions which link us together over the Christmas period – allowing friends, neighbours and colleagues to enjoy and celebrate this part of the calendar.

“Our grateful thanks go to Canon Jenkin and his team for making us so welcome and to the fantastic choir – the boys and men of St Mary-le-Tower, directed by Dr Michael Nicholas and your organist for the evening, Dr Giles Brightwell.”
