A five-vehicle pile-up east of the Orwell Bridge on the A14 caused severe tailbacks for motorists yesterday evening.
West bound traffic reportedly backed up to the Seven Hills area of Ipswich following the crash at around 5.15pm.
Both lanes were closed while ambulances attended the scene. However no serious injuries were reported and the east bound lane was able to reopen soon after.
A Suffolk Constabulary spokesman said a white Mercedes HGV, a silver Audi A4 and a black Alfa Romeo were involved in the initial collision. A blue Seat Ibiza and black Vauxhall Zafira then joined the pile-up.
The west bound lane reopened at 7.25pm.
