Ipswich: Fog causes driver to mow down street sign
An early morning motorist became one of the the first casualties of the thick fog which filled the region’s roads yesterday.
Police were called to an accident in Burrell Road at 12.30am after a taxi driver tried to do a U-turn and ploughed into a street sign after miscalcualting the distance.
Fortunately the driver escaped serious injury but was left with a bloody nose. No other vehicles were involved in the crash, which happened at the junction of Willoughby Road.
However, the collision did cause a “spaces” sign for an Ipswich car park topple over.
Police said the vehicle involved was a Vauxhall Vectra.
A spokesman from the force has advised motorists driving in foggy conditions to always use headlights when visibility is seriously reduced and keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front.
He also said drivers should use windscreen wipers and demisters and always be aware of other drivers not using headlights.
