A former sandwich store worker who stole more than £8,000 from his employer has been jailed for eight months for flouting a court order.
Davie Griffin, 24, of Bramford Road, Ipswich, appeared at the town’s Crown Court in August and admitted theft by an employee while working at Subway in Queen Street. He stole £8,240 between November 2011 and March last year.
He was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, and ordered to do 300 hours unpaid work. He was also given a 36-hour attendance centre order.
Griffin was called back in front of Judge Rupert Overbury, who sentenced him last year, and admitted breaching the suspended sentence order by failing to attend two appointments with the probation service in September and October.
Russell Butcher, prosecuting, said Griffin had completed 173 hours of the unpaid work requirement but had not completed any of the attendance centre hours. He said the probation service wanted the order revoked.
Judge Overbury told Griffin he warned him when he imposed the suspended sentence that any breach could see part or the whole of the sentence being activated.
Last year the court heard Griffin stole money by entering false amounts on the till and pocketing the balance. At the time he had a girlfriend and baby and some of the money was spent on nappies.
