Four dogs trapped in a burning van near a supermarket in Ipswich were rescued by firefighters today.

Two fire engines were called to tackle the flames of the blue commercial van, parked near Morrisons supermarket in Sproughton Road.

Three other dogs had already made it safely out of the van before firefighters arrived at 2pm. After the fire was put out by 2.30pm, the other four dogs were rescued.

All seven dogs were “ok”, a Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

He said the van was well alight when the crews arrived. Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and two hose reels to put out the blaze.

The owner of the van made the emergency call to the fire service.

Further details about the incident were not released.
