Ipswich charities are appealing for donations of new socks and underwear to donate to the town’s homeless.

Help Our Homeless has been working with other agencies to fill rucksacks with toiletries, hats, gloves and other essentials.

It has partnered with the Emmaus Suffolk Sox Appeal to include donations of socks and underwear to the rucksacks, which is said to be the least donated clothing yet the most needed. “Clean, dry underwear can make a huge difference to people’s physical and mental wellbeing,” said a campaign spokesman.

Rucksacks have been presented to Cavendish Lodge, which provides emergency accommodation to homeless people, and the Ipwich Winter Night Shelter, where they are reported to have been welcomed by service users.

Help Our Homeless has around 40 collection points in Ipswich.
