Budding bakers from Ipswich High School for Girls and Holbrook Academy battled to be named the Peninsula Bake Off Champion at Suffolk Food Hall on Wednesday.

The annual competition was judged by chefs including Pascal Pommier from The Table in Woodbridge, with entries on the theme of a summer picnic.

Charlotte Legrand won for Ipswich High School for Girls with her Jambalaya pastries and lemon and passionfruit tray bake, while Jasmine Laight scooped the crown for Holbrook by crafting lemon shortbread and Manchester eggs on skewers with tomatoes and basil.

Clarissa Thomas, head of food studies at Ipswich High School for Girls, said: “Congratulations to all of the competitors in this year’s Bake Off since September and particularly to the finalists from Holbrook and Ipswich High School. I was delighted with the standard of entries.”
