Ipswich High School for Girls hosted the UK’s largest pop-up planetarium on Friday, where youngsters could see the planets, stars and solar system come to life.

The Woolverstone-based school was the latest stop on the outreach tour by the University of Hertfordshire’s planetarium, and featured the university’s Dr Mark Gallaway introducing youngsters to the planets, the moon, the sun and solar system, before a deeper delve into the interstellar.

Oona Carlin, headteacher at Ipswich High School for Girls, said: “The planetarium was certainly an impressive sight on the lawn of Woolverstone Hall.

“The students’ thoroughly enjoyed their sessions within the planetarium and asked Dr Gallaway some thought-provoking questions.

“I am sure their enthusiasm for astronomy will continue to develop after such a rewarding experience.”
