CONCERNED homeowners are set to meet with Co-op bosses over their proposals to open a funeral parlour in a busy residential street.

A petition has already been launched by people living in Bramford Road objecting to the plans, which will see the Co-op open the parlour in 295 Bramford Road.

There are also proposals for a new access ramp and steps, a boundary fence and creation of vehicle access from Riverside Road.

Daniel Bambrough, 34, one of the residents against the change, said: “This is a very emotive issue. People, I’m sure, would not want to be reminded daily of their mortality when coming home after a hard day’s work when they turn into Riverside Road.”

In a letter to the Co-op, Carole Jones, borough councillor for Westgate ward, added: “This is a use the community are adamant they do not want. We support residents 100 per cent on this matter.”

The Co-op has confirmed they will meet with residents over the proposals.

Amanda Long, executive officer for membership, marketing and media for the East of England Co-operative Society, said: “We are meeting with local residents on Bramford Road to listen to and better understand their concerns about our proposed funeral branch.” A date for the meeting has yet to be set.
