Two Suffolk nurses are taking on the London Marathon to collect cash for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust – and to celebrate their 30th birthdays.
Paediatric nurses Hannah Wilkinson and Hannah Page, running under the name Team Hannah, spend a lot of time caring for children with cystic fibrosis at Ipswich Hospital.
The debilitating condition, which has no cure, sees people experience a build up of thick, sticky mucus that can cause chronic lung infections and progressive lung damage.
Ms Wilkinson, who lives in Framlingham, said: “As part of our roles we look after children with cystic fibrosis and they have regular stays at the hospital with us so we get to know them.
“Unfortunately, a few of these children have passed away which is very sad as you obviously get really close to them.”
The duo will take on the marathon next month.
