Ipswich has been named as one of the UK’s top 10 riverside destinations, in a new survey by a travel website.

Data collected by HolidayLettings.co.uk, a TripAdvisor company, reveals the town is among the UK’s best-rated riverside holiday destinations.

Analysing ratings and reviews, the holiday rentals site found that Ipswich ranked among the UK’s ten best-rated riverside destinations, with an average rental review score of 4.921 (out of 5.00).

In a blog post, the site calls Ipswich an “elegant waterfront town”, citing its cultural events, art festivals, live music, and food and drink.

The blog suggests holidaymakers “take a romantic stroll along the water’s edge before enjoying an evening meal with a view of the harbour. Board one of Ipswich’s sailing barges and drift along the River Orwell or take in a show at the New Wolsey Theatre.”

It also recommends visiting the Old Custom House and admiring the Gainsborough and Constable paintings at Christchurch Mansion.

Ipswich took ninth place in the riverside destinations survey. Ross-on-Wye in Herefordshire scooped the top spot, just ahead of Tiverton in Devon.

Also in the top 10 were Omagh, Bridgnorth, Huddersfield, Worcester, Fordingbridge, Llandovery and Newton Stewart.
