A music duo from the town have been blown away by the surge in support they have received since appearing on The Voice.

De’vide, made up of former Holbrook High School pupil Barny Holmes and Lex Flowers, wowed the BBC One show’s panel of judges during their blind audition as they went through to the next stage of the competition.

Since the show aired, a clip of their rendition of My Girl has been viewed thousands of times and there has been a huge increase in the number of their Facebook and Twitter followers.

Barny, 24, said: “We’ve had an overwhelmingly great response – it has been madness.

“On social networks we have been spending a lot of our days replying to our fans. Considering it was short air time on the show, it has been mental.

“We have had some accomplished artists giving us some feedback as well – it has been going really well.

“We just feel on top of the world and we want to keep the work ethic up.”

The pair performed to Sir Tom Jones, will.i.am, Jessie J and The Script’s Danny O’Donoghue on the show – with Domino singer Jessie deciding to take a chance on them.

They will now go through the battle stage of the show and, if successful, they will then go through to the live shows.

Barny added: “ When she turned around it was a shock and a sense of relief. I think the performance showed we were nervous and I didn’t think they were going to turn around.

“Eventually we heard the noise of the chair turning round and we just looked at each other and forgot the words.

“We just want to really thank everyone for getting behind us and supporting us, especially in our home town.

“Even though we have been on TV it doesn’t mean we have made it. Me and Lex have been working hard for three years.

“That has given us a stepping stone in the right direction. It has been really hard work and there is a long way to go.”
