CHANTRY Library in Ipswich will not open on weekdays this week while essential building takes place.
It closed at 4pm yesterday and will re-open on Saturday at 10am.
This is to allow work to be completed on a new children's centre at the library, as well as refurbishment and the installation of new toilet facilities.
The children's centre will offer 'stay and play' services on Tuesday afternoons where parents can play with their children and meet other parents.
There will also be child and family health services at the library.
Suffolk County councillor Graham Newman, responsible for adult and community services, said: “I'm very excited about this chance to improve the library and provide a children's centre at the same time.
“The county council is well placed to offer many of the services , and some of the fun, that local families want in one convenient building.”
