FOR most young girls, the thought of chopping off their long locks is the stuff of nightmares.

But nine-year-old Lucy Warren did just that – and with a beaming smile on her face – to boost a kids’ cancer charity.

Lucy, of Kingston Road, Ipswich, had her hair cut to donate to the Little Princess Trust, which makes real-hair wigs for children with cancer.

The Springfield Junior pupil has also raised more than £900 for the charity to help towards the cost of making the wigs.

Proud mum Claire Warren said: “All she wanted to do was raise £350 because that’s what it costs to make a wig but she’s smashed that.

“She’s so hyped up by the money that’s going to the charity.

“She’s quite a determined little girl. She has got a heart of gold and she said she wanted to help children with cancer.

“We’re very proud of her, me and my husband.”

Lucy said: “I wanted to do this because I do not think it is fair for some unfortunate girls and boys to have cancer.

“It will make such a big change for people who have cancer and other illnesses.”

Stylist Sheridan Woods, from Top to Toe hair salon in Bramford Road, cut Lucy’s hair for free.

Mrs Warren said: “It was brilliant, I cried. She’s really pleased with her hair.

“It’s always been long but they did it lovely for her, it looks amazing.

“She loves it, she can still put it in bunches and clip it back.

“She said she’d like to keep her hair short now.”

Lucy raised more than £500 before she had the haircut and her total is now up to £916, with more donations still rolling in. One of her brothers, Kieran, even donated his £2 from the tooth fairy.

“It would be fantastic if we could get over £1,000,” added Mrs Warren.
