An Ipswich man has been charged with 21 historic offences dating back to 1975, police have today said.

Brian Callaghan, 78, of Waterford Road, is set to appear in court after today being charged with the following offences against four victims:

Victim one: Threatened or intimidated a woman to have sexual intercourse between 1975 and 1979.

Victim two: Three counts of indecent assault committed on a girl under the age of 14 between 1979 and 1981. Four counts of gross indecency committed on a girl under the age of 14 between 1979 and 1981. Two counts of administering a drug with intent in 1977 and 1979.

Victim three: Two counts of child cruelty between 1985 and 1990. Gross indecency committed on a boy under the age of 14 between 1985 and 1990.

Victim four: Three counts of gross indecency committed on a girl under the age of 14 between 1975 and 1983. One count of gross indecency committed on a girl under the age of 14 between 1982 and 1983. Indecent assault on a girl under the age of 14 between 1975 and 1983. Rape of a girl under the age of 16 between 1982 and 1983. Rape of a girl under the age of 16 between 1979 and 1980. Rape of a girl under the age of 16 between 1979 and 1983.

Callaghan returned on police bail to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre today where he was charged.

He is set to appear at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on January 15, 2014.
