A 33-year-old man from Ipswich has been handed a suspended prison sentence after driving while disqualified using a fake licence since January.

Bronius Bagackas, of Newnham Court, pleaded guilty to obstructing a constable in the execution of his duty, driving without a licence, driving without insurance, making a false statement to obtain insurance and driving while disqualified at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court today.

Prosecuting, Sandra Dyer said Bagackas had bought a fake driving licence after being disqualified from driving in August 2016.

She said: “In a nutshell the obstruction charge was for giving false particulars, being the details on that licence.

“He made full admissions in interview and he admitted to giving the fake photo identification to the officer.

“He had paid £500 for the fake identification and used that to get the insurance under that alias.

“He has driven the car since January.

“It’s blatant sir, if I can put it that way,” she added.

In mitigation, Ellie Carter said he had only used the vehicle to drive to and from work as he has two young children to provide for.

She said he realised he shouldn’t be driving and had recently moved closer to work so he can get there by foot in expectation he will be disqualified again.

Presiding magistrate David Stevens handed Bagackas an 18 week prison sentence, suspended for 18 months and banned him from the road for three years.

He was also sentenced to 100 hours of unpaid work and fined £200.

Mr Stevens said; “We find your offences to be very, very serious.

“You drove whilst disqualified and in addition used another person’s identity to obtain a new driving licence under false pretences and continued to drive for several months using this identification.

“It is not acceptable, it is just not acceptable.

“The offences of driving while disqualified and the making of false statements has crossed the custody threshold.

“We have also thought about crushing the car but as it is in your wife’s name we have decided to leave it alone.”

He added: “If you end up here again you will be inside and your family will suffer.”
