A 27-YEAR-OLD Ipswich man was today arrested in connection with a serious sexual assault in the town.

The suspect is currently being held in custody as detectives quiz him about his involvement in the crime.

The incident happened at about 1.15am on February 10, near to The Regent theatre, in St Helen's Street.

The 31-year-old victim had been queuing for a taxi in Old Foundry Road when her ordeal began.

Having spent the previous evening with a friend at Shout nightclub, in Northgate Street, the pair then made their way to the nearby taxi rank. The friend left in one taxi, while the victim waited for another.

It was while waiting for a cab that she was approached by two men. They dragged her to the car park, where the sexual assault took place.

She made her way to a nearby phone box about two hours later and then alerted police to the incident.

The area was sealed off for some time while scene of crime officers combed the area for clues.

Anniversary checks were also carried out the following week in a bid to tease out more information.
