AN Ipswich father has been awarded an MBE for his service to the Defence Medical Services while working in the Ministry of Defence.
Major Nick Kettle, 39, travelled to Buckingham Palace to accept his Member of the British Empire medal.
His wife Sharon, 38, and daughters Kaylee, four and Lauren, 11, went too, and Major Kettle said:
"It was appropriate that the whole family was present, because Sharon has provided me with inspirational support throughout my Army career, and this award must be seen as recognition of her efforts."
The couple married 18 years ago, at St Francis Church. Mrs Kettle added: "The day was everything that I had imagined, and more."
Her mother Yvonne Balaam, whose husband Alec, died recently, shared her daughter's pride.
Major Kettle has served in the Falklands, Hong Kong and Belize, and saw operational service in the Gulf War and Northern Ireland.
