A man from Ipswich is going to the extreme for Macmillan Cancer Support’s ‘Brave the Shave’ campaign - by having his entire body waxed and wet-shaved to raise money for the charity.

David Cole, 41, faced a full-body waxing at Escape Beauty Rooms in Ipswich last week and is preparing to have his head buzzed and wet-shaved on Monday.

He was inspired to take up the eye-watering challenge after hearing the four-year-old daughter of one of his friends had been diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer, six weeks ago.

Having decided to shave his head for Macmillan, another friend had offered to raise his donation from £10 to £50 if David wet-shaved his head too.

However, David thought he would go a step further to maximise his donations - opting to have all the hair on his body removed, head to toe.

“It has had a massive effect on my fundraising when it became ‘brave the pain’ as well as ‘brave the shave’, he said.

“Everyone knows somebody who has been affected by cancer.

“My friend and his family don’t need any financial support so I thought I would show them my moral support by taking on the challenge.”

“The full body waxing was quite excruciating I must admit.

“The inner thigh and chest were very painful.

“I remember watching Steve Carell in The 40-Year-Old Virgin having his chest waxed and thinking he was being a bit dramatic at the time.

“I fully appreciate what he was going through now.

“It took about three hours to do the lot without a break.

“I feel a bit cold now, I have lost all my insulation.”

David has already raised more than £1,100 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

He said although he is getting used to being hairless, his wife has found it an odd experience.

“Initially she was disappointed my legs were smoother than hers. Now I’m at that stage where I am a little bit prickly she won’t go near me,” he said.

“She had asked me to run up a mountain or something next time I want to raise money - something a little less painful.
